People who are obese and diabetic can benefit from eating mangoes daily, says a research finding led by Edralin Lucas, associate professor of nutritional sciences at Oklahoma State University, College of Human Sciences and also lead author of the study.
The researchers said that mangoes contain biologically active compounds like the manigiferin, a known antioxidant. This they said brings benefits to blood glucose. The other important component of mangoes is the fibre content which delays the absorption of glucose into the blood stream considerably.
Said Lucas, “Our results indicate that daily consumption of 10 grams of freeze-dried mango, which is equivalent to about one-half of a fresh mango (about 100 grams), may help lower blood sugar in obese individuals.”
To test their hypothesis, the researchers asked each participant to consume 10 grams of the fruit and monitored their reaction. At the end of the supplementation period lasting 12 weeks an assessment was made.
It was then revealed that there was a reduction in glucose level in both sexes. There was however no change in each of the individuals’ weight, hip or waist measurement, waist to hip ratio, fat and lean mass, said the team.
On the downside, according to the findings, there was however a slight increase in BMI (Body Mass Index) in the female participants which they dismiss as insignificant.

The lead author says the findings give an option for those obese and who want a healthy diet. The study has been published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolic Insights.Read more here:www.sheindress.co.uk/black-prom-dresses-uk
