Zimbabwe: Fashion Week Ends in Style

(Image:formal dresses)
The curtain came down on the fifth edition of the Zimbabwe Fashion Week on Saturday at Harare City Library and the country's top runway show lived up to its billing. Since the event came alive a week ago, the capital has been a hype of activity with enthusiasts thronging the venue to get a glimpse of the designs that were being showcased. Top international celebrity Yuri Kolokolnikov was on the guest list as promised and the "Game of Thrones" star graced the event throughout the week.
The show's founder and executive producer, Priscilla Chigariro, described the fashion fete as yet another success in spite of the challenges that marred the planning process.
"We are happy that we managed to pull it off.
"Everything went as planned and a number of changes had to be made in the build-up to the event.
"One of these include the setting up of the tent, making the event an outdoor event as the library did not have adequate space.
"The show came up beautifully and the central location enabled different people to easily access it," she said.
About 40 designers showcased their work on the runway and of these, seven were international brands.
Among them was United States-based super model Yolanda Yona, better known as Nana Simz, who added the international flair on the runway.
Also among the "A" list guests was 3013 ZFW emerging designer Znzorzi Adby.
South Africa-based Zimbabwean designer Thembani Mubochwa of TZM Fashion House returned home for the fashion showcase and presented great outfits at the show.
Radio and television personality Hazvinei "DJ Chilli" Sakarombe was TZM Fashion House ambassador this year and she also graced the runway.
Speaking about the showcase, Mubochwa said he was humbled to return to ZFW after a successful participation last year.
"I am glad to return for the show. It has become my annual plan to be here to showcase my designs.

"Home is best and I was happy to see emerging designers doing well," he said. Also read here:princess prom dresses uk

Finding the Right Vegan Cheese

Finding the Right Vegan Cheese
(Image:prom dresses)
Okay, so you’ve decided to ditch dairy. Good for you! Your body will thank you in a myriad of ways, not to mention your conscience. Believe it or not, giving up dairy products is one of the very best things you can do to demonstrate your commitment to living gently on this planet, as well as protecting your own health for the years ahead.
Now what do you do about that pesky little problem called cheese? If you’re like many people, giving up cheese can be a daunting thought, especially if you’re used to relying on it when there don’t seem to be any other “vegetarian“ options.
But there’s no reason this should have to be the case. Sure, it’s true that once upon a time, giving up dairy meant giving up cheese, but in today’s world, the range of vegan cheeses seems to be growing all the time.
With so many to choose from, how do you know which one to try? Well hey, why stop at one? In fact, the most sensible thing is to test out different cheeses until you find one that really suits your taste preferences. From soy to tapioca, to almond, macadamia and hazelnut, vegan cheeses are all very different to each other, so don’t be fooled into believing that you’re out of options just because a particular brand doesn’t float your boat.
Choosing the right vegan cheese depends largely on what you intend to use it for. There are many cheese dishes you can create in your own home, including simple sauces made using tofu, nutritional yeast, tahini, and a few simple seasonings. This same basic formula can be used to create cheesy pasta dishes, a topping for lasagna, or fresh ricotta to have on crackers.
With a simple Google search for recipes, you’ll find that there is no shortage of inspiration for the aspiring vegan cheese chef. In fact, there are entire books devoted to explaining the fine art of dairy-free cheese making, proving that an intrepid adventurer can hand-make vegan goodies from gouda to brie to mozzarella.
And don’t be discouraged if you’re allergic to soy, as there are plenty of soy-free options. Daiya cheeses (wedges, slices, shreds and spreads) are all soy-free and tapioca-based, and there are plenty of soy-free nut cheeses, such as Treeline and Dr. Cow.
If you’re craving pizza with cheese that melts and stretches, Daiya shreds may well be your best option.
Daiya shreds also work really well for enchiladas, paninis and nachos, but another good bet is Vegan Gourmet by Follow Your Heart. Although it doesn’t have the stretch of Daiya, it also melts and seems to have a more neutral flavor.
Longing for a morning bagel with cream cheese? Check out Follow Your Heart, Galaxy Foods or Sheese. As well as plain (great for cheesecakes!) vegan spreadable cheeses are available in different flavors including cheddar, chive and sweet chilli.
If you want to do a vegan wine and cheese tasting, you might want to look into some of the new artisan cheeses, such as Treeline or Dr Cow.
Seeking queso for your corn chips? Food for Lovers, Nacheez and Nacho Mom’s can all fulfill that craving.
If you like a little parmesan sprinkled on your pasta, there are a few different brands out there, including a completely raw one called Parma, as well as Parmela, GoVeggie and my own favorite, Bellissimo (made in New Zealand by Angel Foods.)
Have a hankering for Mac ‘n’ Cheese? Well honestly, you can easily make it yourself without any store-bought cheese at all (ask Google!), but there are also several powdered sauce mixes to make it easy, including Road’s End Organics and the cashew-based Beyond Better. And if you’re looking for really a quick fix, Amy’s has a dairy-free frozen version of this classic comfort food, which also happens to be gluten-free. Earth Balance also has two flavors of packaged Mac ‘n’ Cheese, requiring nothing more than a little stove-cooking along with vegan milk and butter.
Looking for a crunchy, cheesy snack? Beanfields have created an incredible nacho-flavored corn chip that often leaves me wondering how on earth they did it. And believe it or not, Earth Balance recently came out with Vegan Cheddar Kettle Chips, Cheddar Squares and Aged White Cheddar Puffs and Popcorn!
And finally, if you want nothing more than a tasty cheese slice to go in between two slices of bread with lettuce and tomato, and maybe even a little vegan mayo (mmmmm), then I would recommend Daiya slices or wedges.
As you can see, the variety of vegan cheese alternatives on the market is far from limited. And the options are even wider if you’re open to experimenting in your own kitchen. With just a little culinary courage, you can open up a whole world of vegan cheese-making using fresh, whole food ingredients.
When we make changes to our diet, one thing we find is that our tastes and preferences change as our habits change. Flavors and aromas that were once appealing can actually become quite the opposite as our bodies adjust to more wholesome foods. I say this from experience. I was once a serious cheese eater, enjoying everything from cheddar to camembert to blue cheese. Nowadays, just the smell of dairy cheese has become quite a turn-off to me. So if you’re venturing into the world of vegan food with trepidation about replacing familiar flavors with new and different ones, rest assured that you will not feel the same way in a month from now. In fact, since the cells in our taste buds renew themselves every two weeks, there’s a good chance that your taste will catch up with your convictions in no time!

And in the meantime, don’t be afraid to try something new! We now live in a world where giving up dairy doesn’t mean giving up cheese… Now isn’t that something to be grateful for?Read more here:www.sheindress.co.uk/graduation-dresses

Fashion-fearless Klum takes on Milan

Milan designers wrapped up five days of previews for next summer's womenswear looks on Sunday.
While trends like geometric wedge sandals, billowing diaphanous dresses and embellished boyfriend denim trousers won't be in stores for months, the fashion hungry already have a good idea what to expect thanks to the hashtag-driven world.
That's a good thing, helping to demystify fashion, according to Heidi Klum, has played a big role in the popular evolution of fashion as one of the creators, along with Harvey Weinstein, of Project Runway.
"People can understand it better now," said Klum, who was in Milan for an AmFAR gala Saturday evening, and took in the Versace and Roberto Cavalli collections. "Because of Project Runway, because of social media. You see editors in the front row uploading all the photos right from the runway, so you see it immediately. Now everyone is competing and showing things."
Klum said she herself is "fearless with fashion" and bravely wears things many department store buyers would rather leave on the runway. "I love wearing all those beautiful clothes. I have a lot of opportunities to wear the beautiful gowns. I understand not everybody does."
AMFAR GALA
Klum's fashion choice for the AmFAR event was a red carpet-worthy strapless black Versace gown accented by a cage-like gold corset.
Klum, who has been working with AmFAR for over a decade, oversaw an auction that raised $1.4 million for the AmFAR foundation, which has set a goal of curing AIDS by 2020.
A Damien Hirst piece fetched the highest price of the evening, 250,000 euros ($320,000), while Israeli model Bar Refaeli helped drive up bidding on a Robert Rauschenberg print titled "Soviet/American Array III" to 110,000 euros ($140,000).
"I think it is so important what they do," Klum said. "They are raising millions and millions of dollars for the research."
OVER THE RAINBOW
Massimiliano Giornetti has updated brand founder Salvatore Ferragamo's original 1938 Rainbow wedge sandal, created for Judy Garland. The shoe has been made modern with monochromes, and paired with exotic skins, while the platforms undulate both along the horizontal and the vertical.
That movement echoes the clothes in the collection, and epitomizes how Giornetti is perfecting the marriage of apparel and leather goods at the center of the brand's identity.
Nowhere was that better exemplified during the Salvatore Ferragamo womenswear preview on Sunday than in halter dresses with a reptile bodice that flowed right into a knit skirt with the lightest tulle underlay for an ethereal effect. It was complemented by a clutch with fringe cascading out of the side.
Cross-directional ribbing gave movement to dresses that wrapped assuredly around the bodice, while leather belts defined the flattering silhouette. Voluminous trousers moved like skirts.

There was an emphasis on white — a runway favorite in Milan collections for next summer — earth tones and paler shades — but the designer punched up the last pieces with turquoise blue and emerald green accents.Read more here:www.sheindress.co.uk/sexy-prom-dresses

Irish fashion designers continued to shine at London Fashion Week

paul costello 2015-n
(Photo:uk prom dresses 2014)
From the new to the established, Irish talent is definitely finding its niche at one of the world’s biggest fashion industry showcases and as the dust settles on another impressive week for fashion in the capital, here are my key shows:
As one giant of Irish fashion, John Rocha, bowed off the fashion week schedule this month another returned. Paul Costelloe rejoined LFW this season, presenting a retro-inspired catwalk show at Simpson’s in the Stand. Basing his silhouette on the empire line, his mini-dresses featured an innovative play on volumes and explorations in colour, resulting in a fresh, youthful and above all highly-wearable collection.
The use of lavish Italian floral jacquards added a depth to the deceptive simplicity of cut while tailored cropped jackets and trench coats illustrated Costelloe’s mastery of the line. This collection sees a more coherent and contemporary Costello, playing to his strengths but in a new and unexpected direction.
From one industry veteran to a newly emerging talent, Danielle Romeril presented on the official schedule for the first time. A graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design, Romeril completed an MA at London’s prestigious Royal College of Art and this astute training deeply informs her concept-driven clothing.
Starting her label in 2012 she has since been making strong headway in the industry and currently receives support from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN sponsorship platform. Instead of a catwalk, her presentation consisted of a designed set evoking an off grid camping site set in the basement of Somerset House.
Her main themes promoted a new interpretation of sustainability and never has it looked so sharp. Using khaki and army green as a focal base she has produced her most ambitious collection to date, which was wearable and functional. With unique combinations of lazer-cut materials standout touches included large 3D pockets in lace or backpacks.
Despite the loss of John Rocha from the show schedule it seems his unique aesthetic and assured approach to fashion design was still present, namely in the collection presented by his daughter Simone. Her fashion sensibility seems contained in a Rocha vacuum, naturally enough, but this only serves to heighten her popularity. Each season reveals a development of her core brand values which evoke a slightly off-kilter woman, who is equally happy dressing up as she is on a rural hike.
Rocha’s repetitious use of signature silhouettes and motifs beguile the viewer and draws them into her idiosyncratic fashion world. And with worldwide sales and distribution growing, it’s working. The designers Spring Summer 2015 collection further revisits her main themes – for example her colour palette continues to focus on black and muted nudes.
When a vibrant red surfaced unexpectedly it featured as an embellishment on a nude background or in an exaggerated form appliqued on a floral print. Her androgynous silhouette, exaggerated with hyper pockets illustrates her considered construction of garments, while lengths rarely left the knee as edges were scalloped or trimmed with fur.
Styling is always vital for Rocha and accessories provided an accent on the catwalk, with handbags – with edges that were also scalloped or trimmed with the obligatory fur, as well as transparent lace gloves all reinforcing her DNA. The brand’s strategic move into footwear was inspired too as Rocha’s brogues now compete with the likes of Prada and Stella McCartney in the statement stakes. This season her footwear was again an integral component to the collection, whether fur trimmed or appliqued.
Simone Rocha is not only one of the most interesting designers to ever come out of Ireland, continuing her father’s legacy, she is also one of the more interesting designers that showed at London Fashion Week.
From top to toe Rocha creates the mise-en-scéne of the catwalk, in which every aspect is vital but most importantly is pushing fashion in new directions which still satisfy the consumer. Also read here:www.sheindress.co.uk/prom-dresses-uk

Ten trends from London fashion week 2014

Burberry Prorsum's distinctive trainer
(Photo:vintage prom dresses uk)
Trainers
The week saw a virtuous trend circle between the front row and the catwalk. Stan Smiths, Gazelles and Nike Airs lined the front row, while trainers appeared on the catwalks of Burberry and Temperley.
School
Christopher Kane borrowed from his secondary-school uniform (Taylor High, detail dorks) and showed pleats and burgundy on the catwalk. Meanwhile, Anya Hindmarch showed clutch bags in the shape of giant pencil cases (remember, yeah?) personalised with leather stickers.
Venn diagram curves
Semi-circles of overlapping colour made the grade at Christopher Kane, Jasper Conran and at Stella McCartney’s capsule Green Carpet Challenge collection. Anna Wintour got in there early, wearing the actual GCC collection to the collection. That’s power.
Long slouchy skirts
As seen at Emilia Wickstead, Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders. The look has gained traction off the catwalk too, where it is worn with a neat white shirt and a kitten heel.
Pleats
This trend had a long list of backers including Peter Pilotto, J.JS Lee, Christopher Kane, Barbara Casasola and Margaret Howell. The latter’s were as neat, refined and uniform-ish as you would expect.
Matisse
The recent Cut-Outs show was the most successful exhibition ever at the Tate. The collections of Issa, Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto and Roksanda suggest that designers spent some time south of the river this summer.
Bermuda shorts
Posh and just on or above the knee, bermudas will be big next summer. Antonio Berardi, Roksanda and Paul Smith say so.
Freaky nautical
Next summer, nautical won’t just mean stripes – although Preen’s striped polo-necks were perfection. It will mean rope detailing – seen at Christopher Kane and Peter Pilotto. JW Anderson had a sideways swipe at nautical, with giant leather picture hats and rope and toggle details.
Denim jackets
Very normal usually, and very haute next summer. Henry Holland featured them in his groupie show and Christopher Bailey nipped them in at the waist, popped on a bright perspex collar and relied on Jourdan Dunn to show them off.
Leather

A laser-cut leather dress stole the show at Mulberry, and JW Anderson’s leather hat is set to become a cult buy. But special mention must go to Christopher Kane’s leather tracksuit bottoms worn with flat sandals and woven detail top. Also read here:pink prom dresses 2014

Kendall Jenner banned Kim Kardashian from coming to her fashion shows

Kendall Jenner banned Kim Kardashian from coming to her fashion shows
(Image:amazing prom dresses)
In the latest installment of ‘I hate my famous family for impeding my aspirations as a legitimate fashion model,’ Kendall Jenner (who these days insists on only going by the moniker Kendall) told in a recent interview that she banned her infamous sister, Kim Kardashian from attending fashion shows in which she was modeling in.
Told Kendall via NYmag‘s The Cut in which she explains how her family’s clout rather than facilitating her career has in fact done quite the opposite (you think?): ‘I was like, ‘You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously … People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model. Because of the TV show,” she adds needlessly. “I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn’t recognize me. I was like, ‘Thank you. Please don’t recognize me.'”
Added the aspiring model who last week alone sashayed down the planks for venerable designers including Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenbergand Tommy Hilfiger (bixches smell free press when they see it) : ‘Kim was invited to a lot of the shows that I was in,” she says. “She called me before and was like, ‘Hey, I was invited to the show, I just wanted to let you know. Do you want me to come?’ and I was like, ‘No.”
The model has told in the past that ‘people didn’t take me seriously as a model…I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn’t recognise me. I was like, “Thank you. Please don’t recognise me.”‘

What do you think kids? Is Kendall Jenner smoking the good shit? There because she didn’t get the helping hand of the world’s biggest media tabloids (thanks pimp momma Kris), delusional or just making sure she pimps the story of her reticence just like pimp momma trained her to as she continues to juice every waking moment on her ascent to superstardom?Read more here:long prom dresses
