Summer experiences harvested, we’re shaping styles for the new season

Stylish times

“After traveling abroad this summer, I was so glad to come back to Todmorden,” he said. “I want to hear all the stories from clients’ adventures this summer. Yes, I did visit other salons while I was away and I brought back lots of new ideas. I love this time of year, and I’m offering a whole new palette of concepts, colours and styles to add to the festivities.”
We all agree, September is a “welcome back” month, a month with lots of stories about summer adventures.
It’s also a month for preparation and getting back on track.
Loucas elaborates on his point: “All over the world September is the gateway month to holidays the whole world celebrates. Fashion is a very big part of it. As 2015 rolls into view I believe a rebirth of glamour will command centre stage.”
Loucas says that in the Calder Valley, the summer of 2014 will be remembered as hot, sunny, and world famous yellow for one of the best Tour de France races ever!
“I hope we have a dozen more summers just like it but now it is almost over and now we move on to a different time of year; a time for fresh new colours and textures.
“September has a long standing tradition as harvest time, essential to a community, sustaining strength as we start to think about the essentials for the new season ahead; the autumn solstice.
“The Celts celebrated September with harvest festivals, their seventh month, the perfect month. September didn’t get shifted into being the ninth month until Gregorian changes refined the Roman calendar into what we use today. But hundreds of years of tradition cannot be wiped away so easily, and ancient September continues in spite of the change.
“The earlier Roman calendar named this month of the year ‘seven’ because it coincided with the seventh astrological sign Libra, symbolised by scales of balance.”
During harvest, balanced scales assured everyone was treated fairly. Balance has always been an important aspect of life, even fashion life. The scales became the sign of perfect justice, and seven the number of perfection in many different religions or cultures, said Loucas.
“Seven is the number of wholeness, completion, and by traditional implication the end of one period and the beginning of something new. It’s a time to celebrate, with new styles of clothes, new schools, new business ventures, and new social events; while our hills and valleys are given a makeover of newly fallen coloured leaves,” he said.
Meanwhile, what did Loucas and his team discover on their own summer travels?
Loucas, who is artistic director and founder of Stone Hair Art said: “Everyone is revisiting the classics. Long luxurious waves of thick curls were everywhere I looked.
“Women’s hair styles, even on the beaches, were glamorous and sophisticated. It’s a rebirth of the classic Venus beauty, the type you might find on Mount Olympus or in Monaco.
“Confident classic elegance is in, and we found a way to make it fit you and your budget; it’s something you can be part of this season. Looks which were cool, raw, and sometimes vulgar and crude in the past few years have outlived their shelf life.
“The new look celebrates the fragile elegance of life.”
Tom, Stone Hair Art stylist supreme and colour specialist had this to offer: “I noticed all the sun kissed highlights on hair this summer, mostly the look says ‘I spent hours on my private beach in Rio, and on my yacht at the Ritz in Cayman playing tennis in the blazing sun’.
“The sun kissed look subtly races along tips and edges of the hair, as if the sun bleached it; a must for international travel.
“I imagine this trend will continue even into the winter, perhaps with a little holiday sparkle blended to spark the season”.
Loucas felt it was great to travel, and even better to share it all with creative friends, developing their own styles from the experiences. A lot more ideas floated around the afternoon they met up again.
And Stone’s number one female stylist, Jenny, just returned from Mexico has some interesting observations to share.

If you stop in and hear what Loucas and the team have on offer this autumn maybe you’ll end up with a new style of your own and new adventures to share as well. Also read here:uk prom dresses 2014

It is important to know that facial is only temporary, and you can expect your face to be back like before after a few months. During a facial, the beautician uses a lot of cream on the face for a period of time to get that glow.
There are few things that you need to know before facial. Facial tips are very important, as facial depends on the skin type. If the wrong set of ingredients is used, there can be drastic effects. To avoid all these, there are a few questions to ask before facial to your beautician.
One of the very crucial facial tips is that you need to know your skin type and the type of creams that can be used on it. The following are the questions to ask before facial.
What do you do in a facial?
This is one of the basic questions to ask before facial. This will help you know what exactly they will do and how well they will do it. Try to compare them with a different place and check who gives better services.
What type of facial is best suited for me?
They should be able to judge the type of facial required for your skin tone. For this, one of the significant facial tips is that you should know your skin type. This will help you determine that they are suggesting the right one for you. Using wrong ingredients and techniques that are not suited for your skin will only give negative effects.
Do you have a natural facial?
This is one of the questions to ask before facial. Facials are of different types, most of them are cream based and will contain a lot of chemicals. There are also natural types where they use fresh fruits, aloe Vera and other natural products. You can be sure that this will not harm your skin in any way.
Do you have a consultation before doing a facial?
A few good salons will have this provision. This will in fact give you a clear idea of your skin type and the kind of facial you can use and how often you will need to do it and of course, the best suited in your budget. They should be able to give you a good idea about the method.
How much will it cost?
Facial is necessary, but there is no point spending a lot on it. One of the facial tips is to ask them for the one which is best suited for your budget. By doing this, you can get to use them regularly, which will help your skin look better in no time.

Protecting Your Eyes During a Run

(Image:uk bridesmaid dresses)
Just before you head out for a run, you probably take care to protect your skin from UV rays by using sunscreen. Remember also that your eyes are exposed to the elements when you are outdoors as well.
Just before you head out for a run, you probably take care to protect your skin from UV rays by using sunscreen. Remember also that your eyes are exposed to the elements when you are outdoors as well. Although summer is fading into fall, it is still crucial to protect your eyes and skin during your daily outdoor runs.
Protective Eyewear
“We should all be protecting our eyes from both visible light and UV light, throughout our lifetimes, because [sun exposure] can damage structures in the cornea, the lens of the eye and the retina, as well as the skin around the eyes or eyelids,” says Michael Repka, a professor of ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He notes that studies have shown that ultraviolet exposure can result in increased risk for a range of vision-related problems, from heightened sensitivity to light and irritation to cataracts and possibly macular degeneration and skin cancers on the eyelid.
Remember that eye protection is important any season of the year, regardless of the weather. Dr. Dora Adamopoulos, an optometrist in VA, notes that 31% of UV light still comes through on cloudy days. Running in the winter? Snow-covered surfaces reflect up to 80% of UV rays.
Ophthalmologist Edward Kondrot MD notes that the darkness of the lens is not the deciding factor on which lenses to purchase. Also, although you may like the look of polarized lenses, they do nothing to fight UV rays. Look for glasses that advertise blocking up to 99% of UV rays or absorbing up to 400 nm. (Runners may also want to look for additional features such as non-fog lenses and flexible sweat-proof nose bridges so they are comfortable enough to keep them on during the entire run.)
For additional protection, you should also consider wearing a hat that shields the eyes from UV rays. In addition, running in early mornings or in the evenings when the sun is not quite as bright is protective. You can also take your run indoors to a treadmill on occasion.
Nutrients that Protect the Eyes
In addition to shielding your eyes from the sun, you should also include five essential vision-protective nutrients in your daily diet, says Kerri Haynes MS RD.
• Lutein & Zeaxanthin – these carotenioids may help aid in the prevention of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. They are found in brightly colored vegetables, dark leafy greens (such as spinach and kale), and lutein-rich eggs.
• Zinc – this mineral aids in the release of Vitamin A from the liver, which in turn supports the production of melanin, a protective pigment in the eye. Red meats, poultry and eggs are good sources. Plant sources of zinc include wheat germ, nuts, black-eyed peas and tofu.
• Vitamin E – an antioxidant that protects the body against free radical damage. Vitamin E is found in cooking oils such as soybean, safflower and corn. Nuts are also a great source of E.
• Vitamin C – in addition to boosting the immune system and protecting tissues, vitamin C may also help lower risk for age-related macular degeneration and visual acuity loss. Citrus fruits and berries are great sources of vitamin C.

• Omega-3 Fatty Acids: EPA and DHA are important for vision development and retinal function. Higher-fat fish is the best source (salmon, mackerel) but you can also find omega-3’s in flaxseed and walnuts. Also read here:uk prom dresses

Kim Kardashian reveals her weekly routine for glossy locks

(Photo:formal dresses)
Let's just face it, Kim Kardashian has some pretty impeccable locks. Have you ever seen those flowing strands look anything short of glossy and flawless? No, us neither, which is why we're completely down with learning her hair routine, which she dished to WWD with North West's hair secrets, too. Hurrah. And, surprise surprise, her hair routine doesn't err on the low-maintenance side. In fact, she has an entire plan to keep it packed with joy all week. But there is one shock here; she doesn't rely on much shampoo to keep it in check, instead going through a cycle of styles that work with its natural oils. Clever.
She said: "I start out the first day with a clean blowout. The second day, I put in dry shampoo, which adds texture. Then, the third day, I sleek it and I straighten it, and then, the fourth day, I put our oil in it, and I make it a really sleek look. I might do a ponytail or a sleek bun. That's my hair plan, and then I start over."
Well, we don't know about you, but to our ears, that sounds like a great way to get soft locks. After all, over-washing can lead to dryness, hence the popularity of co-washing.
The secret spilling is all in aid of the upcoming Kardashian hair collection, and when talking about their Black Seed Dry Oil, she said she's been testing it out on North West.
"North likes to brush her own hair. You start with a brush and then you have to get a second brush [for her]. Right when you get it all perfect, she takes the brush and starts doing it herself. I just started using our oil because I needed to slick it [her hair] back and make it stay. I just use a drop of it, but then she brushes it and likes to mess it all up."

Well, that's all the evidence we need that our future children will be craving North West's locks. Also read here:www.sheindress.co.uk/prom-dresses-2013-2014

Junk food makes rats lose interest in varied foods

(Image:prom dresses 2014)
Researchers in Australia say a steady intake of junk food leads to a loss of rats' natural appetite for a balanced diet, indicating that poor eating habits could lead to changes in the brain.
"The interesting thing about this finding is that if the same thing happens in humans, eating junk food may change our responses to signals associated with food rewards," says University of New South Wales professor Margaret Morris. "It's like you've just had ice cream for lunch, yet you still go and eat more when you hear the ice cream van come by."
In a study that illustrates how over-indulgence deteriorates self-control and ultimately leads to poor health, researchers conducted a Pavlovian-style experiment on rats.
Working with young male rats, they taught them to associate one of two different sound cues with either cherry- or grape-flavored sugar water, respectively.
Rats maintaining a healthy diet stopped responding to the sound cue after having over-indulged in the flavor with which it was associated, reflecting a mechanism that occurs naturally in most animals to promote proper eating habits.
Next, the rats were allowed to access pie, dumplings, cookies and cake for two weeks, adding an estimated 150 percent more calories to their diet.
A ten percent weight gain and behavior change followed, marked by a lack of interest in novelty foods and continuous response to the sound cue despite over-indulgence in the flavor it was advertising.
Remarking that it took the rats a long time to regain their natural responses after returning to a healthy diet, researchers believe junk food's powerful impact on decision-making could result in long-term changes to the reward circuit area of the brain.
Because human brain chemistry is similarly wired to that of rats, researchers say their study provides increased evidence of advertising's contributions to the obesity crisis.

"As the global obesity epidemic intensifies, advertisements may have a greater effect on people who are overweight and make snacks like chocolate bars harder to resist," says Dr. Amy Reichelt, lead author of the paper and UNSW postdoctoral associate.Read more here:www.sheindress.co.uk/pink-prom-dresses

New Zealand Fashion Week Live: Day Two

(Image:bridesmaid dresses uk)
Some heavy hitters are expected down the catwalk this evening - Andrea Moore, Juliette Hogan and Zambesi among them. We'll bring you the details on those as they happen.
Here's what today's looked like so far ...
* Huffer's new dressy womenswear label, Aim, was launched to the soulful strains of Watercolours, aka Chelsea Jade Metcalf, at the Huffer Basement just off Queen Street. Metcalf waltzed down from the stage and along the floor, creating her own runway and frightening nearby bloggers. "She's spooky," one said. There was no actual catwalk show - just lookbooks to take away.
Dished out: coffee, Veuve Clicquot, mini-cereal and yoghurt pots and bagels.
* There was a show by two Lucys ... A houndstooth print in the shape of a swan? Pretty clever, from Napier's Lucy Kemp. Her outfits had a beatnik feel earlier this morning - though we wish there hadn't been quite so much heavy eye makeup. Also in the same show, Lucy Mcintosh's collection which is totally wearable - cute jumpsuits, gold-zippered leggings and structured jackets.
Dished out: a single rose.
* Last night, Stolen Girlfriends sent models down a racetrack at Western Springs Stadium, the gritty aesthetic of the runway suiting their grungy outfits perfectly. Slicked-back hair, glittery embellishments on double denim (on a jumpsuit, we loved it) leather jackets, mesh, tartan, and yellow were all spotted.

* This afternoon the runway's been taken over by ivory at the Weddings fashion showcase.Read more here:sexy prom dresses

5 ways to have happy feet

Lindsay Martin, from Hilton Head Health, demonstrates muscle therapy using a small hard rubber ball that's rolled on feet.
(Image:www.sheindress.co.uk/evening-dresses)
Anyone who has taken a yoga class knows that the practice is done in bare feet. No shoes, no socks, just feet. I am asked about this quite often. Besides the obvious, such as not tracking in outside dirt and keeping our mats and practice space clean, there are other vital reasons for taking off those shoes.
These days, I’ve noticed a lot of commercials for foot products like inserts and specialized shoes. We enclose our feet inside an artificial structure designed to, we’re told, make the foot work better or reduce injuries, pain and strain.
Sometimes our feet are encased in shoes for the better part of our day — anywhere from eight to 18 hours — when what we really need is to take those shoes off and let our feet do the job for which they were built.
Because they’re not the most attractive part of our body, we tend to overlook the feet or misalign their structure by jamming them into narrow-toed shoes or 4-inch heels.
The engineering marvel known as the human foot is made up of 26 bones (including the ankle), 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. Without the foot, we couldn’t stand, and without the big toe, balance would be nearly impossible.
Consider the fact that feet are our shock absorbers and propel us through our world. The incredible mechanics of the foot distribute our weight from heel to toe as we walk or run, and those toes defy gravity, pushing away the ground beneath us to move us onto the next step. In yoga practice, the toes may grip the mat to keep you sturdy or spread out to keep you balanced.
Here are a few simple things you can do to strengthen muscles, loosen tight ligaments and tendons and encourage the foot through its range of motion.
These exercises may lead you to look at your feet with a new awareness and appreciation, all the while reducing strains that lead to injury or issue.
• Sit on a chair and press the base of the toes into the floor, heels lifted. Hold for five to 10 breaths. Then, curl the toes under so you’re on the knuckles, leaning forward just enough to feel the pressure. Hold for five to 10 breaths. Repeat pressing the base of the toes into the floor.
• Sit on a chair or the floor with your right foot perched above your knee. Using the hands, hold each side of your foot and rotate the sole toward the ceiling. Hold for five to 10 breaths. Repeat with the other foot.
• Position your fingers between each toe and press downward and away from the center of the foot. Hold for five to 10 breaths.
• Align the foot’s energetic qualities by pressing a thumb into the center of the arch. Hold for five to 10 breaths.

• Place a “dead” tennis ball or rolled towel under the arch of your foot and begin rolling the ball or towel back and forth from heel to toe. Continue for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat with other foot. Also read here:www.sheindress.co.uk/blue-prom-dresses
